U.K. Initiative to Combat Bullying and Harassment Launching in 2024
A new U.K. initiative to prevent and address bullying and harassment is set to launch in 2024, bringing together creatives from the U.K.’s film, television, music and theater sectors.
What is it? Named the Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority (CIISA), the independent standards body will initially cover film, television, music and theater and is intended to be an authority where concerns over behavior can be brought up and investigated confidentially. Lucy Frazer, U.K. secretary of state for digital, culture, media and sport, shared that CIISA will be ready to take cases next year. The initiative that led to CIISA's formation was spearheaded by Time's Up U.K.
CIISA is backed by a number of British talents including actors Keira Knightley, Stephen Graham, Sule Remi, Ruth Wilson, Varada Sethu and Naomie Harris, singer Rebecca Ferguson, director David Puttnam and James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli as well as all U.K. broadcasters.
What they're saying: "CIISA has one clear purpose, to make the creative industries a safer working environment for our talented colleagues who make the film, TV, music and theater that we all love and enjoy," CIISA interim CEO Jen Smith said. "Leading organizations and industry figures are demonstrating their visible commitment to a safer working environment too, by supporting CIISA and championing us by name. There is overwhelming evidence for the need for CIISA and bringing collective accountability to our sector, and the more quickly others join us, the more quickly we will have an independent body in place to support the whole ecosystem of the creative industries."
