Willie Morrison

Artist Profile - Willie Morrison
Here at The Nashville Briefing, we are dedicated to finding you the fastest rising artists on the Nashville scene. This week, we spoke with Willie Morrison, whose debut single came out today. See the highlights from our conversation below.
TNB - This is the first single you are releasing as a solo artist. Tell us about how "One More Time" came together, and how did you know it was the right song to lead with?Morrison - I wrote the song with Ben Johnson, KK Johnson, and Robert Arthur. Sometimes it takes a demo or time to digest a song to know if you love it or not. This was not the case for this song. We knew immediately, and we started discussing dates to record it. Honestly we tracked most of "One More Time" in Ben’s basement, and I think we even used some of the scratch vocal on the final mix. I think the high energy and upbeat vibe of the song make it the perfect introduction for my solo debut.TNB - You recently signed with Randy Brown's company Prime Focus, for management. How did you connect with Randy and tell us a little bit about how you built your Nashville team.Morrison - I met Randy through my producer/co-writer, Ben Johnson. He put me in touch with Randy as someone he thought would work well with me. Randy's been the missing piece I needed, and together we've worked to build our brand and team. I can’t imagine now doing this without him. While we have some industry friends in common, it’s been fun to see people from each of our circles come together and rally around the new music.TNB - As a new artist, now is typically the time when you start firing on all cylinders, playing shows, promoting the single etc. How has being quarantined affected the experience for you?Morrison - Despite the obvious personal and professional woes that come with quarantine, we've utilized the extra time to dive into our strategies for promotion through release and beyond. Whether it be our CO-VIDEOS Sessions series, Instagram lives, or just sitting and talking through ideas, I'm surprised at how productive we’ve been able to be. And though I'm not a huge fan of the Zoom writing sessions, I've been having one or two virtual co-writes a week.TNB - What should fans be on the lookout for beyond this single?Morrison - We have some videos in the works that we'll be releasing to support "One More Time" that I'm very excited about. Beyond that, I have more music that I'll be putting out this year. And as soon as it becomes safe, I plan on getting back out on the road to play shows! Also, I have some songs being released by other artists that I co-wrote that I hope you’ll be hearing on the radio very soon!TNB - What has been some of your favorite content during quarantine?Morrison - TV: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Ozark, The Marvelous Mrs. MaiselMovies: Us,  JokeBooks: Sex Drugs and Cocoa Puffs - Chuck Klosterman (I just started this)The Book of Basketball - Bill SimmonsFavorite new Quarantine Music:Album: Southside - Sam HuntSongs: Break My Heart - Dua Lipa, Heartless - Morgan Wallen
