Spotify’s Rumored ‘Superpremium’ Tier Seemingly Spills Some Details
It was previously reported that Spotify appears to be preparing a "Superpremium" tier for launch later this year. Thanks to a tech-savvy Reddit user, more information about the probably-upcoming tier is now available.
What's the tea? Reddit user Hypixely did "a little digging within the Spotify app" and its code to find some information about the new tier. It looks like the streamer might finally feature 24-bit lossless audio, which is not described as HiFi in the code examined but referred to as "Spotify’s top tier experience for the sound obsessed."
In addition to HiFi audio, Superpremium may feature 30 hours per month of audiobook listening and over 150,000 titles in the audiobooks subscriber catalog. There will also reportedly be "advanced mixing tools," the ability to create playlists with AI and additional information on your own personal listing habits and library.
Initial reports: Spotify first announced it was working on a HiFi tier in 2021. In June, Bloomberg reported that HiFi was on its way and that the tier had been branded as Superpremium. The price was rumored to be $19.99 per month, a number confirmed by Hypixely's investigation, though they noted that it "could just be a placeholder."
What they're saying: "At Spotify, we are constantly iterating and ideating to improve our product offering and offer value to users,” Spotify spokesperson CJ Stanley told The Verge. "But we don’t comment on speculation around possible new features and do not have anything new to share at this time."
