Rock Hall Announces 2023 Inductees

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its 2023 inductees, revealing the 13 creatives who will join the no-longer-strictly-rock institution’s storied ranks when they are officially inducted later in the year.

Who’s in? The Hall’s 2023 class includes Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine and The Spinners, all of whom were voted in via general balloting in the performer category. Six other inductees were selected by a select Hall of Fame committee including including Chaka Khan, Al Kooper and Bernie Taupin, who will receive the Musical Excellence Award, DJ Kool Herc and Link Wray, who will receive the Musical Influence Award, and Soul Train host Don Cornelius, who has been selected as the recipient of the annual Ahmet Ertegun Award.

Elliott is the only artist in this year's group to be inducted in her first year of eligibility, while Crow and Michael join the rapper in earning an induction in their first time on the ballot. Rage Against the Machine has been up for induction five times, while Bush and The Spinners got in on their fourth try. This year’s performer ballot featured 14 acts, with Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, Soundgarden, A Tribe Called Quest, the White Stripes and Warren Zevon failing to make the cut for 2023, though they can try again next year.

When it's official: The 38th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is scheduled to take place on November 3 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. As the hall’s contract with HBO has expired, a new media partner is expected to be announced.
