DistroKid Acquires Website and E-commerce Platform Bandzoogle
Indie distribution hub DistroKid has acquired the music-focused website builder Bandzoogle, adding features to an already popular option for DIY artists and more.
Who they are: DistroKid is an NYC-based distributor which claims to have moved around 45 million tracks for about two million artists. Two years ago, a venture capital firm valued the company at $1.3 billion.
Bandzoogle is the company behind “over 60,000 artist websites and e-commerce stores,” which gives independent artists access to professional promotional features. The firm recently announced it has helped artists sell over “$112 million worth of releases, merch, and tickets to date."
Why it matters: The move gives DistroKid added usefulness to DIY artists and new acts, becoming a one-stop shop for distribution and promotion. Customers can now get their tunes on streaming platforms, and also make use of mailing lists, subscriptions and crowdfunding tools, while building their own website and press-kit.
What they're saying: “At DistroKid, we’re always working on innovative ways to help artists,” DistroKid founder and CEO Philip Kaplan said. “… Bandzoogle has built incredible tools that make it super easy for every artist to set up an impactful public website and ecommerce store.”
“DistroKid has always put artists first, just like we have, so we’re thrilled to join forces to continue to empower artists,” added Bandzoogle CEO Stacey Bedford.
